These include: Infection Soreness at the injection site (usually short-lived) Diabetic patients may see transient increases in their blood glucose with corticosteroid injections Patients with poorly controlled blood pressure may see a transient increase in their blood pressure Changes in skin pigmentation around the injection site (can be seen with corticosteroid injections, particularly if near the skin surface) Post-injection flare, a short-lived increase in pain and inflammation occurring shortly after injection caused by a reaction to the injected material Pseudo-sepsis, a rare allergic type reaction to viscosupplementation that can result in significant pain and swelling which can, at times, mimic infection
